When microbiological problems are present, the most important stage in water filtration is
the disinfection process, and UV disinfection is a tested and proven method of providing safe drinking water without adding potentially
harmful chemicals. For effective use of a UV filter it must used in conjunction with a Genesis carbon based filter (this combination
provides you with the most effective filtration system) or a Genesis Sediment filter.
Genesis provides two types of UV filters - High flow filters for Point-of-Entry (Whole House) applications and Low Flow filters for Point-of-Use applications. The chart below defines the filter best suited for your microbiological protection.
How Does It Work?
In Genesis UV systems, the lamp is centered within a protective quartz sleeve in the unit's precisely engineered and polished stainless
steel disinfection chamber.
This ensures even distribution of the UV energy to all of the water that passes through the unit.
Any harmful organisms are bombarded with a lethal dose of UV energy, two-times the Federal dosage requirements.
Some of the most dangerous pathogens found in water:
| Group | Kind | Disease |
| Bacteria | Coliforms | Fever, intestinal disease |
| Salmonella | Typhoid fever | |
| Vibrio | Cholera | |
| Legionella | Pneumonia | |
| Viruses | Hepatitis A | Hepatitis |
| Polio | Polio | |
| Parasites | Cryptosporidia | Cryptosporidiosis |
| Giardia | Beaver fever | |
| Amoeba | Amebiasis |
